Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Position
Summary:
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will perform a variety of engineering, design, and documentation functions, and work closely with the Sales, Program Management and Development Leadership teams developing concepts for new products, technologies, while supporting existing products. This position will serve as a Mechanical Design lead expert and provide mentorship to other engineers within the organization. Additionally, this position will help define and drive the product roadmap and provide technical insight to leadership on feasibility for infrastructure, server, and chip-level cooling devices.Duties and
Responsibilities:
o Engages with Sales, Application Engineering (AE), Manufacturing and Procurement Teams on new product designs and product modifications for all Motivair Cooling System. o Supports the creation of Functional Design Specifications and design verification documentation. o Supports development schedules to on-time delivery of Mechanical design, validation, and release to production. o Perform prototype testing and make recommendations for improvements of new products. o Provide mechanical design support to Manufacturing Engineering, Professional Services, and Field support. o Work with external partners, contractors and suppliers on mechanical component fabrication process capabilities, new and/or alternative product definition, evaluation and selection, and cost-performance analysis of those component selection during the design phase. o Works with AE's, Service, Assembly, Supply Chain, etc. to determine the root cause and corrective actions for component/product issues. o Provides 3D and Cutaway renderings of products for marketing literature, training, and instructional documentation. o Creates Engineering Change Orders or revises computerized Bills of Materials, Work Instructions, and other design documentation for new and existing products. o Reviews and checks specifications on designs and drawings. o Defines tools and standards for teams of mechanical engineers. o Other duties as assigned.Position
Qualifications:
o Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field required. o 10
years of experience in product design and development required. o Experience in design & development of Datacenter & IT Hardware preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o Skills for visualization of product lines for 2-D drawings and 3-D models.o Ability to communicate effectively across functional and often across organizational boundaries.o Strong problem solving/analytical skills, demonstrating ingenuity and creativity. o Resolve complex technical issues in creative and effective ways.o Ability to exercise judgment to determine appropriate action.o Ability to work independently and influence others.o Possess or desire to learn the following Technical Knowledge and Skills (Motivair can teach these skills):
o Experience with Structural mechanical design of Datacenter Cooling Solution Products.o Experience with liquid cooling systems, air cooling systems, for Datacenter Systems a plus.o Experience selecting mechanical and electro-mechanical components including plumbing components (e.g. valves, spools, hoses, etc.) structural materials, thermal interface materials, cabling and connectors.o Proficient use of software tools:
Solidworks, Solidworks PDM, Fusion 360, Acumatica, Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10 & 11.o Experience in designing to regulatory standards:
UL and International safety standards, FCC and International EMC regulations, RoHS & WEEE environmental standards.Physical Requirements/Abilities:
o Office environment with minimal lifting of thirty pounds or less. o May require navigating stairs and maneuvering through the plant environment for guided tours.
